**below is a post from our old home and it's approx 5 years old, so click here to be re-directed to our new home's master bedroom makeover!**
here's a look at our master bedroom....fairly basic....some wallpaper, a homemade headboard, and some repainted furniture....
as always, you need to see what i saw the first time i toured the house before purchasing it:
and after......
my fave lighting...capiz shell chandeliers....got this one a few years ago while we were in florida at
west elm. why oh why can't we have that store???!!
for me, this is a fairly "warm" wall color....."french canvas" - benjamin moore
the lampshade didn't have the yellow ribbon detail, so i added it.....
found this dresser in the "as is" at IKEA, so patched the scratches, primed it and painted it with benjamin moore's - "arctic blue".....i feel it should be named "tiffany box" blue...b/c it's a perfact match i think!
dressers are perfect as bed side tables, especially for a king size bed. great storage, right height and right balance. you really need something substantial to have the right scale in the room.
added some crystal knobs, $6/each
made this headboard....unfortunately don't have pics of the process....but measured out a large pce of plywood the size i wanted.....bought some 4 inch trim, installed it, filled holes, painted in "bright white"....then took the remaining opening space and created two padded panels, using mdf, foam, batting and white denim/canvas material....secured by stapling fabric to underside.....voila! i secure it to the wall using keyhole hooks...find them where you find all the screws at home depot.
total headboard cost: approx. $65-75
pretty good for a king size headboard!
some beachy details....
a little table my mom was getting rid of....it was painted taupe, so it got the "arctic ice" color as well!
old chair that sat in my parent's garage for a while. it was scratched up and brown, with dated fabric. sprayed it with primer and white spray paint. recovered the seat cushion with a more beachy and vibrant fabric. i'm NOT an upholster, so i'm not bragging about this project! but it's 'good enough' for my bedroom corner!
this picture also shows the new carpet we installed! a very exciting time around here! waited 4 yrs for my husband to finally do it! LOVE it!
thought i'd leave you with a quick shot of my little cutie, watching tv, and not interested in giving me a quick smile! typical.

ReplyDeleteI love how bright and fresh your bedroom is! The wallpaper is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWOW! what an amazing bedroom!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I love every thing about this room. Where did you purchase the wallpaper from?
ReplyDeletehome depot!
ReplyDeleteFound your blog via Centsational Girl and am very glad I did. I totally relate to wanting beach house style but living in the city. I miss my childhood home by the beach desperately and try to bring little bits of it into my city home as reminders and inspiration to get back there. I love the box frames on the wall shown in this post and would love to see more of this area. I'm about to use white box frames in various sizes to create a gallery wall and can't decide if white frames on a cream wall will look OK or if I should paint the frames black. So, would love to see a little more of this area in your room for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThanks, in the next week or so I'm actually going to devote a post to gallery walls, so stay tuned!
ReplyDeletetotally beautiful room! I LOVE the color that you chose for the dressers and plant stand. :)

Gorgeous again! I can't believe I've been missing out on your blog for so long!
ReplyDeleteThis room is absolutely stunning! I love, love, love everything about it!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely transformation. You've done a great! Love the last pic too, your little cutie had that "serious and do not disturb" look! LOL, thanks for sharing at Beach Cottage Good Life Wednesdays.
ReplyDeleteHi Natalie,
ReplyDeleteI have found you via the Beach Cottage link and I love what you have done to your bedroom - I really like that blue green for your Ikea chest of drawers and as for that little cherub sitting on your bed - that is the icing on the cake!
Best wishes,
Ros
I love your room! It is a beautiful transformation. I am wondering how you painted the dresser? Sprayed or foam brush? thanks!
ReplyDeletethx everyone! nancy - i lightly sanded the dresser, rolled on the primer, and then rolled on two top coats of the color - arctic blue (benjamin moore). all the surfaces were flat, so i used a large - regular- roller (not foam) and i barely had to have any brush strokes. i admit, the roller gives a slightly "pebbly" look, but not enough to bother me. i didn't, but you could top it with a clear coat for extra protection, especially the top. hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteNatalie! Thank you so much for explaning your painting process! Yes, it was helpful. I really appreciate you taking the time. I am looking forward to following your blog!
ReplyDeleteThis is really stunning! We have a similar dark wood sleigh bed that my husband want (he never wants house related things--except for cooking and TV)...but now I am encouraged to try to ditch it. Problem is ...it was an expensive Century brand--really good quality :( I love my bedroom except for that. I might feature it anyway. Following you!
ReplyDeletePS...love the wallpaper and your precious son.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful space. I really love the ribbon detail added to the lamp.
ReplyDeleteNatalie, I love your bedroom especially the "tiffany blue" dressers. What did you use as a primer?? I've painted several Ikea pieces with mixed results but your finish appears excellent.
ReplyDeletethanks
Stephanie: I used bulls eye 1 2 3 primer. I'd also recommend a clear coat top coat, especially on the top.....to give extra strength!
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie ...
ReplyDeleteOH MY! I just stumbled on your blog and I love your bedroom! Love it. (FYI I also love your kitchen.) I have a king bed with those exact dressers for night stands. Sadly my bedroom is no where near as beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing blog. I've always wanted to redo my room to a beach cottage so many awesome ideas!
ReplyDeleteCan you please elaborate more about the Headboard DIY process? my room is missing just that I have to make one
Thank you!!!

Absolutely beautiful!! I love how fresh everything looks. Where abouts did you purchase your crystal knobs? I've been finding some on ebay, but find them so expensive and I need a TON of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your blog, I find it quite inspirational!
I hear you, every time I go to buy crystal knobs I cringe and then just repaint the pulls that the furniture came with.
DeleteThx! Knobs r from the home depot. Anthropologie has tons of options as well, iv ur near one!
ReplyDeleteHi Natalie! I saw you on the Nate Berkus show yesterday, and I was blown away by your beautiful house! You've done an amazing transformation, and I love your style! I'm especially loving your bedroom, and the wonderful headboard that you created. Would it be possible for you to post more details regarding how you put it together? I'd love to make one myself, and am very new to all of this! Thanks for letting us into your home and sharing your ideas with us...it's all very inspiring to me! :) Take care!
ReplyDeleteHi Natalie :) Where did you find your wallpaper? I love it! Your bedroom one and the one in your living room.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is beautiful and inspiring. I'm trying to redecorate the spare room, it's fun to see what other people do with their spaces. I would have never thought to put that yellow together with that blue, but it looks so cheery together.
ReplyDeleteI love this! So pretty
ReplyDeleteI am curios: How has the dresser, particularly the drawers, held-up? I read varying things about Ikea furniture.
ReplyDeleteafter about 3 or 4 years, i chose to repaint the dresser, b/c i wanted a different color and b/c it did start to show a little wear and tear....a few scratches and knicks. so i lightly sanded, repainted and then gave it a top coat with a clear water based stain to help protect. that's kind of the essential part. as for the quality of the ikea dresser....this one in particular isn't great to be honest. good enough for me for side tables. wouldn't recommend for my heavy duty clothing. however, i think other dressers they sell are awesome, so as always, you get what you pay for!
